Friends of Stones River Helps Scholars

The Friends of Stones River National Battlefield, Inc., a nonprofit advocacy and advisory group to the National Park Services, is currently accepting applications for its annual scholarship for local students attending MTSU.

The Henry Patthey memorial Scholarship, named in honor of the late local historian, was created in 2006 to provide financial support for Rutherford County students while encouraging increased awareness and interest in the events surrounding the Battle of Stones River during the Civil War.

The scholarship is made available to resident Rutherford Country high school seniors enrolling at MTSU to study history.  This year’s topic is “In what way(s) was the Battle of Stones River significant?”

The deadline for all scholarship materials is April 17, 2009.  Applications are available from the group’s web site, www.friendsofstonesriver.org or from high school guidance counselors.
