I
am pleased to announce that as of today, Allied Waste (BFI) has
voluntarily stopped accepting radioactive waste at the Middle
Point Landfill.
As your state representative, I have been on the forefront of
this issue and I have spent countless hours in meetings,
hearings and phone conferences. During the final day of
session, I was successful in passing legislation that placed a
moratorium on the dumping of radioactive waste at the Middle
Point Landfill. The moratorium remained in effect until the
State’s Solid Waste Advisory Committee could review the process.
But my work is not done. In January, I will introduce
legislation to outlaw the practice of accepting radioactive
waste in all Tennessee landfills.
