FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dear Friends:

I am sure that we have a few individuals in Rutherford County we could nominate for the following awards……….

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

The Governor's Awards in the Arts were established in 1971 to recognize those individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the cultural life of Tennessee.  These awards are Tennessee's highest honor in the arts, recognizing the outstanding contributions of artists, arts organizations, volunteers, schools, educators, local governments, legislators and corporate citizens in the state or nationally.  The 2007 awards will be presented in Nashville at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center on March 13th during a ceremony produced by the Tennessee Arts Commission.

AWARD CATEGORIES

Folklife Heritage Award
To recognize folk artists or organizations that have made outstanding contributions to artistic tradition.  The award is intended to honor long-term achievements within art forms that are rooted in the traditional or ethnic culture of Tennessee.

Arts Leadership Award
To recognize organizations, businesses, educators, patrons, arts administrators, corporations and volunteers that have demonstrated significant support or participation in activities which foster excellence in, appreciation of or access to the arts throughout the State of Tennessee.

Distinguished Artist Award
To recognize Tennessee artists of exceptional talent and creativity, in any discipline, that over the course of a career, have contributed to the arts and have helped guide and influence directions, trends and aesthetic practices on a state or national level.

PLEASE NOTE

Only organizations, businesses or individuals from within Tennessee may nominate.

A candidate for a Governor's Award in the Arts must be a Tennessee organization or individual living in or with close ties to Tennessee.

Recipients are nominated to the Tennessee Arts Commission, which coordinates the nomination and selection process by panel through an inter-board committee of the commission.  Prior recipients are not eligible for the 2007 or future Governor's Awards in the Arts.

Nominations must be received by the Tennessee Arts Commission NO LATER THAN 4:30 P.M., CST. ON JANUARY 26, 2007.  Late nominations will be returned.

Detailed support materials help panelists make a knowledgeable selection.  In addition to the nomination narrative, letters of recommendation, news clippings, bios and/or resumes and published articles are an important part of the nomination process.

Please email me or call my office and we will fax you a nomination form.

Sincerely,
Donna Rowland
