FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dear Friends:
Female high
school juniors and seniors (from the classes of 2006 and
2007) have a special opportunity to enter a national essay
contest that will award seven $3,000 unrestricted college
scholarships. And the topic is a compelling one: The story and
legacy of one contemporary American woman who championed one or
more rights in the U.S. Bill of Rights.
The National
Foundation for Women Legislators and the National Rifle
Association are co-sponsoring their ninth annual essay contest.
This year, it is entitled “Today’s Heroic American Woman.”
The contest’s
seven winners will receive a $3,000 college scholarship and an
all-expenses-paid trip to NFWL’s Annual Conference, November 16th-20th
2006, where they will be mentored by, network with, and give a
speech to hundreds of women lawmakers from across the United
States.
I hope that
you will encourage at least one college-bound junior or
senior to participate. This young woman should be inspired by
the challenge of conveying in an essay – and in a speech to
elected leaders at a national conference – the story and legacy
of one modern American woman who is a champion of liberty.
The NFWL
selection committee will primarily weigh the factors of
storytelling, understanding of the Bill of Rights, and original
insight.
A complete set
of information for applicants is attached. Questions may be
directed to my office at 615-741-2804.
The essay must
be received by NFWL no later than Tuesday, August 15, 2006.
Sincerely yours,
Donna Rowland
